    India’s Revenue Deficit: A Challenge Ahead

    A developing country like India needs revenue surplus for the capital investment at the same time to pursue the economic development through demand expansion it needs expenditure especially in the social sectors such as health, education etc,. The recent global economic crisis also compels India to induce the expenditure for sustainability of the growth that it has achieved recently. This also needs enormous expenditure. On the other hand, current expenditure over current revenue of an economy makes revenue deficit. India’s Thirteenth Finance Commission’s one of the recommendation is that revenue deficit (as % of GDP) of the Centre needs to be progressively reduced and eliminated, followed by emergence of a revenue surplus by 2014-15 and a long term and permanent target for the Central Government should be to maintain, at the minimum, a zero revenue deficit.     Born-Infeld Chern-Simons Theory: Hamiltonian Embedding, Duality and Bosonization

    In this paper we study in detail the equivalence of the recently introduced Born-Infeld self dual model to the Abelian Born-Infeld-Chern-Simons model in 2+1 dimensions. We first apply the improved Batalin, Fradkin and Tyutin scheme, to embed the Born-Infeld Self dual model to a gauge system and show that the embedded model is equivalent to Abelian Born-Infeld-Chern-Simons theory. Next, using Buscher's duality procedure, we demonstrate this equivalence in a covariant Lagrangian formulation and also derive the mapping between the n-point correlators of the (dual) field strength in Born-Infeld Chern-Simons theory and of basic field in Born-Infeld Self dual model. Using this equivalence, the bosonization of a massive Dirac theory with a non-polynomial Thirring type current-current coupling, to leading order in (inverse) fermion mass is also discussed. We also re-derive it using a master Lagrangian. Finally, the operator equivalence between the fermionic current and (dual) field strength of Born-Infeld Chern-Simons theory is deduced at the level of correlators and using this the current-current commutators are obtained.Comment: 27 pages, One reference added, minor changes in presentation and typos corrected.     We study the noncommutative massless Kalb-Ramond gauge field coupled to a dynamical U(1) gauge field in the adjoint representation together with a compensating vector field. We derive the Seiberg-Witten map and obtain the corresponding mapped action to first order in θ\theta. The (emergent) gravity structure found in other situations is not present here. The off-shell dual scalar theory is derived and it does not coincide with the Seiberg-Witten mapped scalar theory. Dispersion relations are also discussed.     Inhibition of EGFR-AKT axis results in the suppression of ovarian tumors in vitro and in preclinical mouse model

    Ovarian cancer is the leading cause of cancer related deaths in women. Genetic alterations including overexpression of EGFR play a crucial role in ovarian carcinogenesis. Here we evaluated the effect of phenethyl isothiocyanate (PEITC) in ovarian tumor cells in vitro and in vivo. Oral administration of 12 μmol PEITC resulted in drastically suppressing ovarian tumor growth in a preclinical mouse model. Our in vitro studies demonstrated that PEITC suppress the growth of SKOV-3, OVCAR-3 and TOV-21G human ovarian cancer cells by inducing apoptosis in a concentration-dependent manner. Growth inhibitory effects of PEITC were mediated by inhibition of EGFR and AKT, which are known to be overexpressed in ovarian tumors. PEITC treatment caused significant down regulation of constitutive protein levels as well as phosphorylation of EGFR at Tyr1068 in various ovarian cancer cells. In addition, PEITC treatment drastically reduced the phosphorylation of AKT which is downstream to EGFR and disrupted mTOR signaling. PEITC treatment also inhibited the kinase activity of AKT as observed by the down regulation of p-GSK in OVCAR-3 and TOV-21G cells. AKT overexpression or TGF treatment blocked PEITC induced apoptosis in ovarian cancer cells. These results suggest that PEITC targets EGFR/AKT pathway in our model. In conclusion, our study suggests that PEITC could be used alone or in combination with other therapeutic agents to treat ovarian cancer. © 2012 Loganathan et al

    Preliminary assessment of marine water quality in bathing, surfing and fishery areas of arugam bay

    Assessment of recreational water quality is a useful tool in identifying pollution sources, risks to public health and developing appropriate mitigation measures. Present study was undertaken with the view of assessing marine water quality of Arugam bay beach, identifies pollution sources and trends in water quality variation along the surfing, bathing and fishery areas. Research was carried out monthly for a period of 03 months period from February to April, 2015. Measured average pH ((8.15± 0.1) values are indicated slightly alkaline conditions and pH values gradually increase from fishery site to surfing site due to waste water discharge from nearby hotel area. Turbidity values of bathing site are higher than other sites because of high density of bathers and trampling activities in bathing site. Phosphate concentration gradually decreases along the beach area from fishery site to surfing site whereas nitrate concentration gradually increase from fishery site to bathing site and then decrease from bathing site to surfing site. Total Coliform and Escherichia coli counts were high in bathing site than other 02 sites which may be due to discharges from nearby hotels and high density of bathers. Frequent and long term monitoring is essential to obtain temporal and spatial variation in coastal marine water quality of Arugam bay beach

    Correlation among QPO frequencies and Quiescence-state Duration in Black Hole Candidate GRS 1915+105

    We discover a definite correlation between the frequency of the quasi-periodic oscillations (QPO) in quiescence states and the duration of the quiescence state of the transient X-ray source GRS 1915+105. We find that while the QPO frequency can be explained with the oscillation of shocks in accretion flows, the switching of burst to quiescence states (and vice versa) and their duration can be explained by assuming an outflow from the post-shock region. The duration of the quiescence state is inversely related to the QPO-frequency. We derive this relation. We also find the correlation between the observed low (0.0010.01\sim 0.001-0.01Hz) and the intermediate (1-10Hz) QPO frequencies.
